School Counseling at Heard Elementary

Virginia L. Heard Elementary School provides a comprehensive school counseling program designed to support the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. Our school counselors work closely with students, parents, and teachers to ensure a positive and supportive learning environment.

What is the Role of a School Counselor?

The school counseling program at Heard Elementary follows the Georgia Department of Education’s (GaDOE) guidelines to provide structured, data-informed support through:

Classroom Instruction – Lessons that help students develop academic, career, and social-emotional skills.
Small Group Counseling – Targeted support for students who need additional guidance in areas such as friendship skills, emotional regulation, or academic success.
Individual Consultation – One-on-one counseling to assist students in setting personal goals and managing challenges.
Crisis Response – Immediate support for students experiencing difficult situations.
Family and Community Resources – Connecting families with school and community services that support student well-being.
Collaboration – Working with teachers, administrators, and parents to create a positive and inclusive school climate​.
