PBIS
What is PBIS?
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) is a school-wide approach to teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors. The goal is to create a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment where all students can be successful.
The Foundation of PBIS at Heard: GATOR Rules
At Heard Elementary, our expectations for student behavior are guided by our GATOR Rules:
• Goal-oriented – Strive to do your best in all tasks
• Accountable – Take responsibility for your actions
• Team-player – Work collaboratively and help others
• Organized – Be prepared and ready to learn
• Respectful – Show kindness and consideration to everyone
Teaching Expectations
Throughout the school year, the Heard GATOR Rules will be explicitly taught, modeled, and reinforced. Students will participate in lessons and activities that help them understand how to demonstrate positive behaviors in all school settings, including the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, playground, and buses.
Recognition of Positive Behaviors
Reinforcing and acknowledging positive behavior is essential in building a positive school culture. Students will have the opportunity to earn Gator Bucks when they demonstrate the GATOR Rules.
• Gator Bucks can be redeemed at the Gator Store for prizes and special events.
• Teachers and staff will recognize students who consistently meet behavior expectations.
• School-wide celebrations and incentives will be held throughout the year for students who demonstrate positive behavior.
By promoting positive behavior, accountability, and teamwork, Heard Elementary ensures a safe and respectful learning environment where all students can thrive.
