School as STEAM
Virginia L. Heard Elementary School is one of the many school choice options offered in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. We are the only State of Georgia STEAM-certified elementary school in the district, receiving certification in April 2022.
What is STEM/STEAM at Heard?
Heard STEAM Academy integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics into everyday learning. Our school follows an environmental theme, "Think Globally, Act Locally," encouraging students to connect their education to real-world challenges. Classroom instruction is based on interdisciplinary units that incorporate art standards. Students also engage in enhanced learning through the STEAM Lab, Makerspace, and Technology Lab.
Our outdoor learning spaces, including an environmental garden and animal habitats, provide hands-on opportunities for exploration. Students in first through fifth grade must meet rigorous entrance requirements to qualify for the program.
