Fine Arts
At Virginia L. Heard Elementary Academy, fine arts are an essential part of our specials rotation, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to engage in creative and exploratory learning experiences. Our fine arts program includes French, Art, Music, P.E., Theatre, MakerTech, STEAM Lab, and Math Lab, each designed to foster skills in expression, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.
French
Students develop foundational skills in the French language, including vocabulary, pronunciation, and basic conversational phrases. Through engaging activities, music, and cultural exploration, students build language awareness and appreciation for the diversity of the French-speaking world.
Visual Art
Students explore various artistic techniques, materials, and concepts, learning to express their creativity while developing fine motor skills. They work on two-dimensional and three-dimensional projects that encourage problem-solving and personal expression.
Music
Music instruction at Heard includes rhythm, melody, instrument exploration, and vocal development. Students engage in singing, movement activities, and instrumental performance while learning about musical traditions and composition.
Physical Education
Students participate in structured physical activities that promote fitness, motor skills, and teamwork. The curriculum includes fundamental movement skills, games, and exercises that encourage lifelong healthy habits.
Theatre
Students engage in drama activities that enhance storytelling, character development, and performance skills. Through improvisation, role-playing, and stagecraft, they build confidence and communication abilities while learning about theatre as an art form.
MakerTech
Using the Georgia Standards of Excellence in Computer Science, MakerTech combines technology and engineering principles. Students explore coding, robotics, and design thinking while developing computational thinking skills.
STEAM Lab
In the STEAM Lab, students apply science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics to hands-on projects. They work collaboratively to solve real-world challenges, incorporating the engineering design process and creative problem-solving.
Math Lab
Math Lab provides students with interactive, hands-on experiences that strengthen mathematical reasoning and problem-solving. Through games, puzzles, and practical applications, students build confidence in their math skills.
