Medication
School board policy states that medication will be administered only after parents have brought the prescribed medicine to the school nurse’s office in the original container and completed the required medical forms. The parent’s signature on these forms authorizes school officials to administer the medication according to the specifications written on the form.
No medication will be given without this information and authorization, and no medication should be brought to school by the student (prescription, over-the-counter, herbal, etc.) . No students should self administer medication. It is the responsibility of the student to go to the nurse for their prescribed medication at the appropriate time.
Asthma inhalers must be checked in with the school nurse and an asthma plan made.
Families are encouraged to check-in with the school nurse if a field trip/activity arises and a student receives daily medication.
Nurse’s Office Visits
Students shall only be sent to the nurse’s office for emergencies, daily medication, and illness. All students are required to have an official SCCPSS nurse’s pass unless for daily medication.
In case of illness or emergency, a student will receive a copy of his/her office visit to bring home as notification of the visit. As well, the nurse will often call parents/guardians to review symptoms, request a pick-up, etc.
Should a student receive a nurse’s office ice pack please kindly return it to the office. Band-aids and ice packs are always appreciated donations.
Uniform Closet
The uniform closet is housed in the nurse’s office for emergencies only. Should a student receive a uniform in an emergency, please wash and return the uniform to the school nurse within five school days.
Donations of clothing, undergarments, and socks are always appreciated for the uniform closet for all sizes. Please ensure the uniforms have been washed prior to donating.
